Blizzard sold more than 1 million copies of its latest Starcraft II expansion, Legacy of the Void, in the 24 hours following its release last week, suggesting there's always money in the Starcraft brand.

That's notably faster than either the original game, which in 2010 topped 1.5 million units sold in 48 hours, or its second expansion Heart of the Swarm, which in 2013 sold roughly 1.1 million copies in two days.

This also marks the end of a five-year arc for Starcraft II, which Blizzard designed from the ground up to be a trilogy of games. For more details on the game's design process, take a look back at this Gamasutra interview with game director Dustin Browder at the outset of the project.
