50 Percent Of Social Gamers Own Consoles, Says Study

Social game players are becoming "increasingly sophisticated," according to social game company RockYou. Citing a survey by Interpret LLC, the company says that out of a sample pool of 2,000 social game players over the age of 18, 50 percent claimed to own a video game console. Additionally, 25 percent said they preferred games with missions or quests (such as mechanics recently introduced by Zynga in its Adventure World). The survey also showed that social gamers are "even more socially active online than expected" -- according to the study, they spend 13 hours per week on social networks, with 9.5 of those playing games. The average social gamer, according to the study, has 218 social connections, 16.5 real-life friends who play the same social game as them, and have made 20 new friends through games.
