Publisher Activision said Thursday its wholly-owned Beenox studio, developer of the console and PC versions of 2010's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, is now the lead developer for future Spidey titles. Activision noted strong reviews for Beenox's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, which earned a 75 on Metacritic, or "generally favorable reviews." Beenox developed the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii versions of the game. The Quebec City-based studio, founded in 2000 and acquired by Activision in 2005, is currently at work on the next Spider-Man video game. The studio employs 170 employees, according to Activision, all working on Spider-Man. Prior to Beenox, fellow Activision studio and Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch released several Spider-Man games beginning in the early 2000s. The last Spider-Man game released by Treyarch was Spider-Man: Web of Shadows from 2008, developed in conjunction with now-defunct Shaba Games. Before Shattered Dimensions, Beenox worked on other Spider-Man games including the PC version of Spider-Man: Friend or Foe and a PC port for Spider-Man 3. Activision Studios SVP Patrick Kelly said Beenox's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions "reinvigorated the Spider-Man gaming experience among critics and fans."
