BAFTA's 'Brits To Watch' Includes 2 Game Designers

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has revealed the list of its 'Brits to Watch' ahead of the upcoming event to be held on July 9 at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. The list of 42 emerging industry experts, noted as "showing real promise" in their particular lines of work by a BAFTA panel, includes two members of the video game industry. Charles Griffiths, a game designer at Lionhead Studios who is currently working on Fable: The Journey, and also recently developed his own demo, Shuffle, is part of the shortlist. Another designer, Matt Turner, who has previously won a BAFTA award, is also celebrated as part of the list, for his work on Race Driver: GRID and Colin McRae: DiRT 2, among others. Last month, BAFTA launched a U.S. branch for its Video Games strand, as a means of celebrating the video games industry in the U.S. As a celebration of the new branch, a scheme was held in June called BAFTA: A Life in Pixels, that saw The Sims creator Will Wright kicking off a series of events aimed at "developing excellence in video games by sharing the insights of some of the best minds in the industry."
