U.S. studio Choice Provisions, formerly known as Gaijin Games, has been forced to close its San Francisco office to ensure its long-term future.
According to Choice co-founders Mike Roush and Alex Neuse, who formed the Bit.Trip, Tharsis, and Laserlife developer in 2008, maintaining a company with two separate studios became unsustainable.
"Over the past few years, the game industry has changed so dramatically that a mid-sized studio operating as we have for the past several years, just simply can’t continue in the same way," explained the duo.
"To evolve as a company, we recently had to make the decision to shut down our San Francisco development studio and refocus our efforts on our headquarters studio in Santa Cruz."
Along with shuttering the San Francisco studio, the pair confirmed that they had to "let some really great people go," but wished them all the best for the future.
