Blizzard has confirmed development of a new MMO property currently titled Titan, a game that president Mike Morhaime hopes can "co-exist" with its core MMO property, World of Warcraft. Rumors of the game's existence first surfaced when what was rumored to be a leaked release schedule for Blizzard's next five years began to surface in the media. The document details a fourth quarter 2014 release date for a project dubbed Titan, something many assumed referred to Blizzard's new MMO IP. At the time Blizzard refused to confirm the legitimacy of the schedule, reported to have originated from the company's Chinese subsidiary, but at last week's Spike TV VGA award ceremony, Destructoid asked World of Warcraft executive producer Frank Pearce about the Titan rumor, and received confirmation of its existence. "Titan is... the media is not meant to know anything about that," said Pearce. "It's our next-gen MMO, and we've only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we want to leverage the fact that we're working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting -- getting some of the best talent in the industry on that." Although Pearce did not provide any details regarding Titan, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime spoke openly about the existence of a new MMO at the company at Blizzcon in October this year. "We are working on a second MMO," he said at the time. "We're thinking of it as sort of a next-generation MMO. It's not a sequel to World of Warcraft -- we want to do something a bit different." "We're not trying to replace World of Warcraft", he continued. "We think that World of Warcraft can continue co-existing with our new MMO and some people might prefer the new one, some people might still prefer to play World of Warcraft." "We think you can go in different directions and still have a great massively multiplayer experience and we want to sort of experiment with what that might look like."
