After some reports from users, suggesting that they’ve received Destiny 2 PC bans due to using popular tools such as Discord or MSI Afterburner, Bungie issued an official statement. According to it, Bungie does not ban players using overlay or performance tools.
The team claimed that it has banned approximately 400 players on the PC yesterday. However, these bans were applied to those who were using tools that pose a threat to the shared ecosystem of the game. Destiny 2 does not automatically ban those using overlay or performance tools. Bungie is not also banning those using them (even though they do not work in-game).
This is something we’ve experienced too. As we’ve said in our previous article, we’ve been testing Destiny 2 these past days with Shadowplay and ReLive. Both of these programs worked perfectly. Futhermore, we used Shadowplay for capturing the screenshots that are in our PC Performance Analysis article. Moreover, we were able to capture video for a potential video feature (though we decided against it as pretty much everyone has seen the game’s first minutes).
In conclusion, Bungie claims that it is not banning those using overlay or performance tools. So if you are using one of them, you are in the safe zone. However, we strongly suggest scanning your PCs before running Destiny 2. A malware may cause issues and lead to a potential ban so yeah, you’ve been warned!
