Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC back in October 2019. There were rumours that the game would feature a battle royale mode but, upon release, it seemed that wasn't the case. After many months of speculation and rumours, a battle royale mode was finally announced just a month ago.
Call of Duty: Warzone is a free-to-play battle royale mode available for all of the aforementioned platforms. It has proven to be quite a hit, amassing over fifty-million players after just a month's time. Well, a developer at Infinity Ward by the name of Taylor Kurosaki recently took to Twitter to confirm that Call of Duty: Warzone was teased a long while ago.
The first official trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released almost exactly a year ago — in May 2019. It's in that reveal trailer that fans of the long-running first-person shooter franchise unknowingly got their first look at Call of Duty: Warzone. At the 0:50 mark, we're shown some cinematic shots of soldiers readying to leap out from the back of a plane.

Those that have played through it will know that this moment didn't feature in the campaign mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Those that have played Call of Duty: Warzone will recognise that this is quite similar to the beginning of each and ever match.
Despite what Activision and Infinity Ward had said between October 2019 (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's launch) and March 2020 (Call of Duty: Warzone's announcement), it seems that they were always at work on the BR mode. It just goes to show that you can't always entierly trust what studios have to say.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone are both out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
