Capcom Cancels Downloadable Mega Man Universe

Osaka-based Capcom on Thursday announced on its website that it has discontinued development of the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network downloadable title Mega Man Universe. One of the key selling points for the "2.5D" platform game was the implementation of a level editor, as well as character customization options. The game was originally slated for a spring 2011 release, the company said. Production of the game started in spring 2010. Before today, Capcom had said that despite releasing few news updates about the title, that its creation was still underway. Development of the game was headed up by Keiji Inafune, co-creator the Mega Man series. Inafune left Capcom last year to form his own studio, dubbed Comcept. Capcom apologized to fans who were awaiting the game, and did not give specific reasons for the cancellation of the title.
