Chinese MMO ZT Online 2 Sees 435K Concurrent Players In Open Beta

The sequel to Shangahi-based Giant Interactive's flagship MMO saw its concurrent player count pass 435,000 in its open beta, the company said Monday. ZT Online 2, the sequel to the company's popular martial arts-themed, free-to-play MMO, entered an open beta period on September 16, and reached the concurrent player milestone on Friday. According to the company, players are responding positively to changes in the game that make it both more compelling for hardcore players and more approachable for social gamers, along with a "new in-game economy that targets users across a wider range of spending habits," as game producer Xuefang Ji described it in a statement. According to Giant, some 400 developers have had their hands in ZT Online 2 in its three years of development. The buzz surrounding the game is good news for Giant Interactive, which recently saw a significant drop in its quarterly profits, as well as a 5 percent drop in active accounts.
