The latest update for Crytek’s game development engine CryEngine brings a number of new features into the fold, chief among those being support for The Khronos Group’s cross-platform 3D graphics API Vulkan.
Vulkan, which has been utilized in the development of everything from Doom to Dota 2, is set to be included in today's preview release of CryEngine's 5.4 update.
Currently, this means developers are able to make use of Vulkan for projects created with a PC launch in mind. Though not included in the preview build of the 5.4 update, Crytek says it plans to add Vulkan support for Android projects in the future.
In addition, the update brings a number of C# templates, terrain upgrades, and a new component entity system to CryEngine. For a full, in-depth rundown of everything included in the update, take a look at the 5.4 preview release notes.
