Datacentre managers ignore consulting advice

Businesses looking at modernising their datacentres need to assess several areas of IT including green IT, operational efficiency, virtualisation, power and cooling, scale-up/scale-out architectures and organisational structure.

The study, based on a survey of 100 IT professionals commissioned by datacentre operator Sentrum, discovered many organisations didn't trust the advice given by datacentre consultants. Ninety seven percent of the UK businesses surveyed admitted they had ignored some or all of the advice they received.

Franek Sodzawiczny, development director and partner at Sentrum, said: "Advice is commonly rejected, which suggests that consultants are either not doing their homework or that they are not gaining the trust and understanding of their client. If this lack of trust continues to be apparent many businesses will simply fail to reap the savings that quality consultancy should, and could, deliver."
