Legendary game producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, best known for his work on Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, is preparing to unveil a brand-new 3D action RPG before the year ends. In a recent Famitsu interview, Kobayashi confirmed that development is progressing steadily and that voice recording has already begun for the unannounced title.
Kobayashi, now serving as CEO of GPTRACK50, has been hinting at this original project for over two years. In his 2025 New Year’s greeting, he promised fans that an official reveal would happen by the end of this year and now it seems he’s staying true to his word as he teases us with more details about it.
"We’ve already entered the second half of the year, but rest assured that our studio is already preparing to make the announcement," Kobayashi stated. "Everything is going as planned."
While Kobayashi is famous for his high-octane action titles, he clarified that this upcoming game though built around an action framework is not going to be another Devil May Cry. The producer specifically described the title as a 3D action RPG, noting that labeling it simply an action game could mislead fans expecting another fast paced, combo heavy experience.
"I used to refer to the project as an action game, but many people expected it to be like Devil May Cry," he explained. "So I started calling it an action RPG to avoid giving the wrong impression."
According to Kobayashi, this new title aims to break away from his past work while still respecting the foundations of great action game design. He emphasized that the game will not be a Soulslike, and that players should anticipate a unique experience that reflects both innovation and his creative evolution.
Interestingly, Kobayashi noted that the project may surprise even his longtime fans and collaborators. Some of his peers have reportedly commented that the game feels not Kobayashi-like, hinting at a significant creative shift for the veteran developer.
"I want to convey something completely new" Kobayashi said, signaling that this new IP may mark the start of a fresh chapter in his career as a developer and studio head.
With the game’s voice work now underway and preparations for its announcement ramping up, it’s safe to say a reveal could come at any moment, possibly during a major industry event or a standalone showcase.
As of late July, fans now have less than five months to wait before they finally learn what GPTRACK50’s first project will be. Whether it leans more heavily into RPG mechanics or doubles down on tight combat, Kobayashi’s pedigree suggests it’s something fans of action RPGs will want to keep on their radar.
