Electronic Arts' EA Sports label confirmed that it will no longer include paper instruction manuals with its games in order to go green and save money, according to media reports. The label told Kotaku that beginning with Fight Night Champion, released on March 1, it would cease printing manuals in order to go green and save money. Spokesperson Rob Semsey with EA Sports said future games from the label will instead have an in-game manual for users to peruse. EA Sports' decision to drop paper instruction manuals comes nearly a year after French game publisher Ubisoft said it would begin including instruction manuals on-disc instead of on-paper for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. That company also argued that on-disc manuals are more convenient for gamers and would let Ubisoft include more in-depth instructions with its games. EA Sports didn't outline just how many trees it would save by dropping the manuals, but Ubisoft said last year that one ton of paper for Ubisoft game manuals consumes two tons of wood from 13 trees, and requires energy and generates environmental waste from paper production.
