Eidos co-founder and life president Ian Livingstone has departed Square Enix after 20 years, the company announced today. Livingstone, a veteran of the U.K. games industry and two-time British New Year Honor recipient, is best known for 'discovering' Core Design's Tomb Raider, bringing the franchise to the public through Eidos's publishing label. As chairman, Livingstone also oversaw launch of the Hitman, Deus Ex and Thief franchises. Though Livingstone will be retiring from Square Enix he intends to remain active in the industry, principally through education initiatives in the U.K. "All of us at Square Enix... want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Ian for his unparalleled tenure and contribution to this business and the UK games industry," Square Enix said in conjunction with the announcement. "And we wish him every success with his future projects and new ventures."
