Today, the Entertainment Software Association announced that it has selected Mike Morhaime, co-founder and president of Blizzard Entertainment, as the 2011 Champion Honoree at its upcoming charity fund raiser, Nite to Unite – For Kids. Morhaime will receive this honor thanks to his philanthropy and dedication to improving the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions, particularly through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. "Mike’s generous and consistent support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation sets a strong example for all of us," said ESA president and CEO Michael D. Gallagher. "Through company-sponsored initiatives, Mike and Blizzard Entertainment raised nearly two million dollars over the past two years alone to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions and to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy." Last year, the Champion Honoree award at Nite to Unite went to former president of Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division Robbie Bach. Previous honorees include Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, and Sony vet Ken Kutaragi, among others. The 2011 Nite to Unite will take place October 25 in San Francisco, and tickets are currently available for $750 -- the ESA will use these proceeds to make donations to organizations focused on improving the lives of American children.
