Failbetter co-founder and creative director, Alexis Kennedy, is leaving the Sunless Sea and Fallen London developer after seven years.
Since founding the company in 2009, the CEO has seen Failbetter ship nine projects and grow into a studio with 16 full-time staffers.
Running a company has its downsides, though, and for Kennedy, it’s time to get back to his creative roots.
“We’ve built something that’s changed the world, ever so slightly. But it’s been seven years in one place, and I’m too busy running the company to do enough of the creative work I love,” he said in a farewell blog post.
"So, rather to my own surprise, once I’ve finished off one last project, I’m leaving.”
Moving forward, Kennedy says he wants to set up shop as a freelancer to "learn as much as I can from as many different kinds of project as I can."
