FIFA 12 Breaks Sports Games Records With 3.2M First Week Sell-Through

Electronic Arts' FIFA 12 has broken previous sports games launch records in terms of consumer sales, the company revealed Tuesday. In all, the company's preliminary estimate on the game's sell-through is at 3.2 million units across all consoles worldwide in its first seven days. According to EA, this is not only an all-time record for a sports game launch, but is the biggest video game launch of 2011 so far. If accurate, the sell-through is approximately 23 percent higher than last year's launch of FIFA 11. As Gamasutra previously reported, the UK launch of the game was the third highest in that country's history, behind only Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
