FromSoftware fans may have more to look forward to than just Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree or The Duskbloods. A new report suggests the studio is quietly working on a mysterious unannounced project codenamed FMC, which could release as early as next year possibly in 2026 if development stays on track.
The report comes from MP1st, which claims to have obtained credible information from internal sources. According to the outlet, Project FMC is already in the advanced stages of development and is targeting a multiplatform release. Given FromSoftware’s recent track record, fans are speculating that this surprise title could be a return to the Armored Core franchise.
The codename FMC remains a mystery, but MP1st reports that the project is not The Duskbloods, FromSoft’s known multiplayer title currently in the works. Unlike The Duskbloods, which is reportedly focused on co-op PvE gameplay, Project FMC is expected to land on multiple consoles and might reflect a more traditional FromSoft design ethos.
The report suggests F prefixes in FromSoft’s internal project names often refer to Dark Souls or Armored Core projects, leading many fans to believe Project FMC could be a continuation or expansion of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon.
The naming speculation adds more fuel to that theory FMC has a distinctly techy, mech-like sound that fits the Armored Core naming conventions. With Fires of Rubicon released in 2023, it's not far-fetched that an expansion or follow-up could be nearing completion.
While there’s been no official confirmation from FromSoftware or publisher Bandai Namco, rumors of additional Armored Core content have been circulating since late 2023. The franchise saw a strong revival with AC6, earning praise for its intense mech combat and modernized gameplay loop. Despite being overshadowed by Elden Ring, the game maintained a loyal fanbase and many have been hoping for either a major DLC or standalone sequel.
Given that FromSoftware has historically worked on multiple projects simultaneously, the timeline would certainly line up. Elden Ring was in development alongside Sekiro and AC6, proving that the studio can handle complex production cycles.
FromSoftware’s ability to churn out quality titles at a consistent pace is rare in today’s AAA development landscape. With The Duskbloods already breaking new ground as a more experimental online title, Project FMC may be the return to gritty, high-skill action that core fans crave.
The report offers no official release window beyond suggesting we may see it by late 2025 or early 2026, barring delays. Either way, the potential of another Armored Core entry, A Dark Souls entry or something new entirely is enough to keep speculation high.
With FromSoft’s current lineup of The Duskbloods and Elden Ring expansions, the rumored Project FMC adds yet another layer of excitement for fans. Whether it’s an Armored Core 6 expansion, Dark Souls, a new game entirely, or the studio’s next genre-defining project FromSoftware doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get them, as Project FMC could be officially unveiled sooner than anyone expects.
