Slant Six's Galactic Reign is slated to be removed from the Windows Store by August 15th, an Xbox product team staff member has announced via Microsoft's official Xbox forums. The game's servers will also be offlined by year's end. "Galactic Reign was a great cloud-based video rendering game exploration that we are going to bring to a close," writes the Xbox team member. The news follows four months after studio Slate Six announced it was implementing a round of "temporary" layoffs, with a promise to rehire staff pending the acquisition of new projects. Galactic Reign's performance, coming to a head with this announcement, may throw such a proposal into doubt. Furthermore, Eurogamer reports that the studio may have already shuttered as far back as June. Slant Six's Twitter stopped updating on June 13th and the LinkedIn profiles of several staff report having left the company in the same time period. Gamasutra has reached out to Slant Six, Microsoft and former employees and we will update if we receive any confirmation.
