The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS), a not-for-profit outfit that concerns itself with the advancement and recognition of the interactive arts, has appointed Epic Games' former head of publishing Mike Fischer as its interim president.

Fischer replaces Martin Rae, who stepped down in October after six years at the helm, and will now be tasked with overseeing the upcoming 2017 DICE Summit and Awards, which will roll into Las Vegas next February.

Beyond that, Fischer will oversee the day to day running of the organization with the ultimate goal of advancing and promoting the global interactive entertainment and video game industry.

Before joining the AIAS, Fischer held top-level positions at entertainment and game companies such as Epic Games, Amazon Japan, Square Enix, Xbox, and Sega.
