According to a recent report from mobile market research firm Distimo, games remain the most popular category for mobile downloads worldwide across the app stores of Apple, Google and Amazon. Distimo reports that roughly 41 percent of worldwide downloads/installs last month across both Google's Play store and the Apple App Store were apps categorized as games. In the same period, more than half of all apps downloaded from the Amazon App Store were games -- 61.3 percent, to be exact. The report further suggests that games continue to be the big money-makers on mobile -- in Distimo's estimation, 74 percent of all revenue generated on the Apple App Store and 90 percent of all Google Play revenue came from Games during February 2014. Distimo pulled the data from Distimo AppIQ, a tool that, among other things, collects publicly available data -- rankings, prices, etc. -- and transactional data like revenue or downloads from developer who opt into the Distimo App Analytics service. That means the data isn't perfect, but it should help shed some light on what happened in the mobile games space last month.
