While just a few hours remain before early registration ends for GDC 2012, show organizers have debuted major new talks featuring the making of Portal 2 and Saints Row: The Third. Firstly, GDC organizers are reminding that early registration for the March show ends tonight, February 2nd at 11.59pm ET, so interested parties should act now to save up to 35 percent on full price passes. Secondly, major new Main Conference talks have debuted, following yesterday's high-profile sessions that included a post-launch look at Star Wars: The Old Republic and a fireside chat with Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson. Here are the major newly announced lectures for GDC 2012's Main Conference: - Within the Game Design track, key Valve creators Chet Faliszek and Erik Wolpaw will take a moment to look back at one of 2011's most notable games: the critically acclaimed Portal 2. The talk, dubbed "Creating a Sequel to a Game That Doesn't Need One," will detail how the team devised a follow-up to one of the most beloved games in recent memory, covering the entire process from its inception to its eventual completion and release. - Elsewhere in the Game Design track, Volition senior designer Scott Phillips will host, "Designing Over the Top - Saints Row: The Third Postmortem." Throughout this session, Phillips will discuss how Volition defined the game's exaggerated style and gameplay, how it controlled the game's scope, and more. Along the way, he will present several never-before-seen pre-visualization videos, as well as a number of features that didn't quite make it into this ridiculous, tongue-in-cheek open world adventure. For more information on these or any other sessions at GDC 2012, please check out the event's official Schedule Builder, which shows the current (and constantly-growing) lineup for the show so far. To keep up-to-date on all the latest news about GDC 2012, please subscribe to updates from the GDC news page via Twitter, Facebook, or RSS. GDC 2012 will take place March 5 through March 9 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, and is owned and operated by Gamasutra parent company UBM TechWeb.
