With over a very impressive 24 million units sold, a mere three days after its worldwide release, Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima became the fastest-selling original PlayStation 4 intellectual property; managing to surpass Bend Studio's Days Gone and Kojima Productions' Death Stranding.
Those sales numbers set the bar pretty high for Sucker Punch's critically acclaimed action-adventure title, but things didn't stop there, as it was also revealed that the game was breaking sales records in Japan; positioning itself as the second highest-selling first-party title on the PlayStation 4 with over 300,000 physical copies sold.
Interestingly enough, Ghost of Tsushima couldn't beat Insomniac Games' insanely popular, and also critically acclaimed MARVEL's Spider-Man, although this was somewhat to be expected, considering that Spider-Man is a pretty huge franchise featuring arguably one of the most popular superheros out there; closely tied with Batman.
Earlier today, in fact, we reported that Ghost of Tsushima had also become the best-selling game of July in the United States, and that the game had dethroned InFamous: Second Son as Sucker Punch's fastest-selling launch in the developer's history; not to mention becoming the 5th best-selling game of the fiscal year so far.
Tables have now turned, and MARVEL's Spider-Man has finally been dethroned by Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima, in a little over 3 weeks since its worldwide release, and with over a very impressive 330,000 physical copies sold in Japan; information officially revealed by Famitsu, and reported by independent video game analyst BenjiSales.
Sucker Punch really delivered quite the send-off for the PlayStation 4 with Ghost of Tsushima, which is quite fitting since many players consider that InFamous: Second Son was the push the console needed at launch, even when the game wasn't really a launch title. Sucker Punch, our hats are off to you; congratulations, and thank you for delivering such incredible masterpieces time and time again.
