We're just over a month out from the release of God of War Ragnarok, the sequel to 2018's Game of the Year, God of War. Kratos and his teenage son, Atreus, return and this time they're up against Thor, the Norse God of Thunder.
The Entertainment Software Rating Board, more efficiently known as the ESRB, has published its official content rating for the upcoming PlayStation-exclusive video game. Just like its predecessor, God of War Ragnarok is rated "M for Mature", which is to say that it will feature content suitable for adult eyes only.
The ESRB's rating summary for God of War Ragnarok provides some new information about the game, of course, most significantly in the form of which swear words are featured. What might be surprising to hear is that God of War Ragnarok, this retelling of Norse, Greek and all manner of other mythologies, will feature an F-bomb or two.
What isn't surprising, though, given the inclusion of Kratos' trademarked Leviathan axe, is that the game will feature brutal violence in the form of dismemberments and decapitations. What's more, the summary seems to confirm the return of Kratos' iconic Blades of Chaos given the mention of "chained blades."

This is an action-adventure game in which players help Kratos and his son on a dangerous quest. Players explore various realms and engage in frenetic hand-to-hand combat against human-like raiders and fantastical creatures (e.g., centaurs, trolls, dragons). Players use axes and chained blades to battle enemies, often resulting in large blood-splatter effects and dismemberment. Players can perform finishing attacks that depict close-up impalement via bladed and hand-held weapons; repeated axe strikes to a creature's neck results in decapitation. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the game.
God of War Ragnarok launches for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 9th, 2022.
