There have been rumblings about plans for Grand Theft Auto 6 for what feels like forever, but Rockstar's commitment to GTA V and GTA Online has left fans increasingly frustrated.
The games have now been re-released multiple times, and it was confirmed today that they'll arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 15, with new graphics modes, technical advancements, and more.
That's all well and good, but here's the exciting news. On a post shared to their website, Rockstar has confirmed that "we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details."
The fact work on GTA 6 is "well underway" bodes well, and likely means we could get a first look at the game later this year in time for a 2023 release.
Red Dead Redemption was Rockstar's last big title (not including the aforementioned re-releases), and given what an amazing, groundbreaking game that was, we can only imagine what they've done with this next-generation effort.
In terms of rumours, Vice City remains a likely destination or GTA 6 and the mind boggles at what this franchise's take on a city like Miami would look like.
There's bound to be an online component too.
We'll hopefully have more to share with you soon, so keep checking back here for the latest updates!
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the GTA Online community for playing with us across 2021.
