While almost everyone is waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6 to be announced, it seems Rockstar has another major project in the works — a remaster of three classic Grand Theft Auto games.
According to a new report from Kotaku, which has been corroborated by three different sources, Rockstar is developing remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. All three are believed to be coming our way this year via some sort of bundle or collection package that may only be sold digitally.
Rockstar Dundee, the Scottish branch of the company, is said to be leading development on the remasters in addition to being heavily involved in the next-gen ports of Grand Theft Auto V. The games will be remastered using Unreal Engine and will be a mix of "new and old graphics," with one source comparing the visuals to a "heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title."

The UI for the games are also being updated, but will seemingly keep the same "classic style." And while there wasn't much to say about gameplay, it's believed that Rockstar is aiming for the games to "stay true to the PS2-era GTA games as much as possible."
The games are in the final stages of development with plans to release this fall around late October or early November. They will be avaialble for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and even Nintendo Switch. There are also plans for PC and mobile ports although it's possible these versions could slip into 2022 as Rockstar focuses on consoles first.
