In a further bid to clamp down on piracy and other unauthorized use of its hardware and software, Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against Florida-based HackYourConsole.com, a website offering resources and services in Wii and DS hardware modification and software copying. HackYourConsole, registered to one Estephany Vallecillo, also claims to be an authorized distributor for the (as yet unreleased) 3DS Gateway card, a successor to the R4 cards which facilitated easy copying of DS games before being summarily banned in multiple markets. "Piracy on the Nintendo DS system has a huge impact on game sales," said Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham, a third-party Nintendo developer and outspoken anti-piracy advocate, in conjunction with the press release announcing the suit. "If independent studios, like ours, are unable to recoup the money they invest into game development, through the sale of our games, we will unfortunately see fewer independent games developed in the future," he said.
