iOS 4.2 Software Update Adds Game Center Support for iPad

Apple has released an update to its iOS firmware, bringing a number of new features to iPhone and iPod Touch devices and adding multitasking and Game Center support for the iPad. Apple opted to skip the previous firmware update for iPad devices, limiting the significant iOS 4.1 upgrade to the iPhone and iPod Touch. With the latest 4.2 update, iPad users now have access to Apple’s Game Center social gaming platform, which adds achievements, leaderboards, and multiplayer matchmaking to supported games. iOS 4.2 additionally introduces iPad multitasking for all applications, and enables iPad users to sort apps into configurable folders for easy access. For all iOS devices, the 4.2 update adds the printer assistant AirPrint, digital media streaming app AirPlay, and MobileMe functionality for lost hardware.
