It Seems PAYDAY 3 Will Require A Constant Internet Connection, Even To Play Singleplayer

We're just over two months out from the release of Payday 3 and we're now hearing that you need to have a constant internet connection in order to play the game at all.

Sequel to the similarly titled Payday 2, which released all the way back in 2013, Payday 3 is a tactical first-person shooter in which you play as a heister attempting to burgle expensive things either stealthily or with all guns blazing. Developing by Overkill Software and Starbreeze Studios, and published by Deep Silver, Payday 3 is set to debut on September 21st for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Linux and Windows PC.

During a recently live stream, Starbreeze Studios' global brand director Almir Listo clarified that Payday 3 will require an internet connection to play, even if you only want to play singleplayer. "You will be able to play by yourself, but I do believe you will have to have a connection in order to play," Listo said. "Because it's made in Unreal Engine and has cross-progression and cross-play, I do believe we need you to be online."

Suffice it to say, gamers anticipated the heist game haven't taken all too kindly to the news. Many have cancelled their pre-orders in protest and attempted to reach out to the developers in order to get them to change their minds about this aspect of the game. Some of the most popular posts on the Payday series subreddit are not only complaining about the news but urging others to cancel their pre-orders until it's rectified.

It's certainly a shame that those without a sturdy internet connection or even one at all will have a less than stellar experience with Payday 3 but it is an ever-increasing trend within the games industry. Perhaps it's a necessity; we'll have to see how Overkill Software and Starbreeze Studios respond to the backlash. Stay posted!
