Publisher Kalypso Media has licensed Trinigy's Vision Game Engine for multiple upcoming titles, including The Dark Eye: Demonicon, the latest entry in one of Germany's most popular RPG series, releasing for PC and Xbox 360 next year. The Dark Eye franchise began as a pen and paper game in the mid-80s and debuted as a PC RPG series in 1994 with Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny. Kalypso purchased the IP last year and opened Berlin-based Noumena Studios, which was formed out of veterans from Silver Style Entertainment, to develop Demonicon. Previous titles from The Dark Eye brand and Kalypso have traditionally employed an internally created game engine, but the publisher chose Trinigy's Vision for the action RPG and other projects in development due to the technology's "mature feature set, cross-platform performance and modular architecture." Vision has been used in over 200 commercial games of various genres, and supports projects on PC, Xbox 3360, PS3, Wii, XBLA, PSN, WiiWare, and browsers. Support for iOS, Android, and NGP is planned, too. Publishers like Ubisoft, Take-Two, and Dreamcatcher have previously used Vision in their titles. "Trinigy and the Vision Game Engine gave us a single development platform with a strong feature set capable of achieving our exacting graphic and gameplay goals, optimized performance across a range of platforms and extremely responsive support," says Kalypso Media managing director Stefan Marcinek. Marcinek continues, "Just as importantly, the Vision Engine doesn't tie us to a specific workflow -- it is so flexible, we can adapt it to our development process with our own internal tools, not matter what platform or genre we are developing for."
