Hideo Kojima has revealed that Kojima Productions' first project will be built using a third-party engine, explaining his recent, widely-tweeted, world tour has been something of a shopping trip.

Speaking at this year's Nordic Game Conference, as reported by IGN, Kojima said the decision to use a pre-existing engine rather than build one from the ground up was time-motivated.

"I actually think it's better to make games using internal tools," explained Kojima, who previously helped create Konami's Fox Engine.

"As for my first title, because I want to release it to the people who are waiting for it, for that title we are going to use a third-party engine - the reason I am traveling around the world is looking for such technology to use."

Kojima formed independent game studio Kojima Productions after leaving Konami late last year. The studio's debut game is being developed in collaboration with Sony, and will be a PlayStation 4 console exclusive.
