London Games Festival 2011 Canceled, Regrouping For 2012

UK trade association UKIE's annual consumer-friendly London Games Festival has been canceled for this year, the association confirmed this morning, promising a larger event in 2012. According to statements from the association, 2012's show will coincide with the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, which will take place in the region. UKIE is planning a "bigger and bolder group of events," according to statements provided to Edge. "We really want to make London Games Festival 2012 a great destination for interactive entertainment and create a diverse group of events," said festival director Kirsty Payne. The cancellation breaks a six-year tradition. According to reports, the UKIE is discussing a potential collaboration with fellow UK video game industry trade body TIGA for next year's event. The London Games Festival has played host to events that include the Eurogamer Expo, the London Games Conference, and the Golden Joystick Awards, among others.
