Majesco today announced a significant year-over-year increase in its holiday quarter revenues and profits on strong sales of Zumba Fitness and Babysitting Mama titles. Revenues for Majesco's fiscal first quarter, which ended January 31, were up 66 percent from the year before to $48.5 million, with net profits up 78 percent to $8.3 million. The strong performance led the company to raise its expected earnings range for the full fiscal year to $100 to $110 million, up from $85 to $90 million. Wii titles represented a bare majority of Majesco's revenues in the holiday quarter, a significant change from a year before, when the Nintendo DS made up 70 percent of the company's revenues. The Kinect version of Zumba Fitness helped the company bring in nearly $11 million in Xbox 360-related revenues for the period, up from negligible 360 revenues during the last holiday quarter. Cross-platform motion-controlled rhythm-exercise game Zumba Fitness has sold over 1 million units in its first four months of availability, the company said. The title reached 500,000 sales in early January, after nearly two months on sale, suggesting consistent retail performance for the game after the holiday season. Majesco also said its first "significant foray into the social gaming business," Cooking Mama Friends Cafe has attracted 750,000 active users since its December launch. The company has plans for three more Facebook games this fiscal year, including Parking Wars 2, a follow-up to the promotional tie-in for the A&E TV series that will introduce microtransaction-based item sales to the franchise. Majesco's planned 2011 release list also includes six Nintendo 3DS games -- among them a photo-themed kart racer and a zombie-themed pet-care game -- and an iOS conversion of brain training title Left Brain Right Brain. "Majesco had one of its best holiday quarters in the company's history," Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton said in a statement. "Zumba Fitness has proven to be an extremely successful title, and is quickly establishing itself as another key franchise alongside Cooking Mama."
