Majesco Entertainment's days as a game publisher are officially over following a merger with regenerative medicine company, Polarity -- done in order for Polarity to assume Majesco's NASDAQ listing.
The Costume Quest 2, Shadow Warrior, and Cooking Mama publisher signed a definitive merger agreement on December 8.
Once the deal has gone through, Polarity will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Majesco, and will take on the publisher's NASDAQ listing, "COOL" -- although the business will move forward under the Polarity moniker.
The joint outfit will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will focus entirely on developing and advancing the field of regenerative medicine and wound healing.
While the move might surprise some, Majesco's future as a publisher had been in the balance for quite some time.
Back in 2014 the company almost collapsed after it was hit with a huge amount of layoffs. Only five staff members remained, prompting the firm to focus its efforts entirely on the digital market.
In the months that followed Majesco did manage to secure some funding, but longtime CEO Jesse Sutton reiterated his plan to seek "new strategic opportunities that may be unrelated to our historical markets."
Now the company has done just that, apparently bringing to an end Majesco's time as a publisher after 30 years.
