Minecraft will be heading to the Wii U just in time for Christmas, Mojang has announced.

The open-world builder will be landing on the Nintendo eShop on December 17, where it'll be available for $29.99.

Although Minecraft is already out on almost every platform known to man, you'd have been forgiven for thinking the game would never make its way to the Wii U following Microsoft's decision to purchase both it and Mojang for $2.5 billion in 2014.

The Wii U version of Minecraft will come bundled with six of the game's "most popular" add-on packs, and will also make use of the console's GamePad to offer off-TV play.

Mojang has confirmed it will support the game going forward by adding more content packs. Free updates will also be released further down the road.
