mig33, a 47 million-user social network for mobile devices in emerging markets, has partnered with major Japanese networking provider GREE, opening mig33's community to social games from Japan and other regions. Games previously available only on the GREE smartphone platform can now be adapted directly for use with the mig33 network, giving developers opportunity to access a vast community of players in emerging markets in Asia and Africa. mig33's Game Developer Program gives developers access to full API integration support, options for sells virtual goods, and a revenue share scheme. Earlier in the year, GREE teamed up with Tencent, one of mig33's Chinese competitors. mig33 noted that, while the agreements are very similar, this new partnership is looking to expand further, bringing its community into areas of Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. mig33 VP of business development Chris Chandler told Gamasutra that currently his company is focused on developing a mobile social network for emerging markets. For now, Western markets are "not a focus." But he added, "Having said that, we do welcome developers from the U.S. and other Western markets to work with us to develop games for these previously unreachable 'mobile first' users."
