Minecraft Hits 3 Million Sales Milestone

Indie game phenomenon Minecraft has reached another significant milestone today, surpassing 3 million sales in total. Creator Markus Persson (also known as Notch) revealed the figure via Twitter, just days after announcing plans to hold a convention dubbed "MineCon" from November 18-19 in Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay hotel and casino. This means that the game has sold 500,000 copies in just less than two months, having hit 2.5 million sales in June, and has seen a total of 1 million sales in just over three months. Currently, Minecraft is only available on PC, though developer Mojang has announced that the title will launch on iOS, Android, as well as Xbox 360. The recently-announced Xbox 360 version will support the Kinect hardware and is due to launch later this year. In a September interview with Gamasutra sister site IndieGames.com, Persson admitted that he never expected the game to be so popular. "I don't really know why it has sold so well," he said.
