Minecraft on PS3 breaks 1 million sales in five weeks

Newsbrief: Mojang confirmed today that it has sold over one million copies of Minecraft on PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 3 version of Mojang's best-selling blocks game launched on the PlayStation Network on December 17 of last year with an asking price $20. That suggests the game sold more than a million copies in roughly five weeks, an impressive feat -- though not quite as impressive as the time it sold more than a million copies on the Xbox 360 five days after being released on Xbox Live. The PlayStation 3 version of Minecraft is the latest cross-platform leap Mojang has made, but it's not the last -- more versions of the game for new platforms are in the works, including versions for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Mojang is also working on a subscription service called Minecraft Realms, which is currently running in beta in Sweden and is expected to launch later this year.
