Minecraft Takes Home Inaugural GameCity Prize

Mojang's popular sandbox building game Minecraft was the winner of the GameCity Prize in Nottingham this past weekend. The prize, which "seeks to celebrate, explore and include video games as an important part of the mainstream cultural conversation," was the first ever awarded for what organizers hope to be an annual event held in conjunction with the GameCity cultural festival. Other games competing for the jury-selected prize included Ilomilo, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, Pokemon Black, Portal 2, Child of Eden and Limbo. "We’re very excited to have won the first GameCity Prize, especially since the nominees contain some of our favorite games recently," said Mojang's Markus "Notch" Persson in a statement. "It’s a great honor to be compared to those games. Winning this award helps motivate us to try to make Minecraft the best game it can be."
