MINECRAFT: Warner Bros. Finds Its Leading Man In AQUAMAN & DUNE Star Jason Momoa

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jason Momoa (Aquaman and the Lost KingdomDuneGame of Thrones) is in final talks to star in Warner Bros.' Minecraft, the upcoming live-action movie based on the popular video game of the same name. 

Jared Hess (Napoleon DynamiteNacho Libre; Gentlemen Broncos) is directing with a screenplay from his Masterminds scribes Chris Bowman & Hubbell Palmer. 

The franchise launched in 2011 and allows players to use blocks to create structures and worlds.

Film studios got involved soon thereafter and a film adaptation has been in various stages of development ever since.

However, following the blockbuster success of recent releases like Free GuyDetective Pikachu, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it seems as though every major studio wants to get in on the video game movie business much sooner than later.

Before Momoa can get to Minecraft, he has a number of projects already in the pipeline.

He recently wrapped Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom as well as Slumberland and The Last Manhunt. He was recently cast in Fast & Furious 10, where he's rumored to be playing the villain, and is also in pre-production on the action/adventure thriller Cliffhanger

Mary Parent, Roy Lee, and the late Jill Messick will serve as producers alongside Mojang’s Lydia Winters and Vu Bui, with Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, and Jon Spaihts attached as executive producers.
