London-based mobile game maker Space Ape Games has managed to raise $7 million in capital during its most recent round of funding, bringing its total investments to $11 million since it was founded in 2012 by former Electronic Arts executive John Earner. Prior Space Ape investors Connect Ventures, Initial Capital and Accel Partners participated in the Series C round, which was led by newcomer Northzone. According to a TechCrunch report, the money will be used to bring on new staff as Space Ace ramps up development on its second mobile game: Rival Kingdoms: Age of Ruin, a free-to-play strategy game that will feature narrative contributions from Tomb Raider writer Rhianna Pratchett. Space Ape's debut title, Samurai Siege, was also a free-to-play mobile strategy game; the company reports it saw over 10 million downloads and reaped more than $20 million in aggregate revenue since the game launched last November.
