Monster Hunter Portable 3rd Takes Japan Game Awards 2011 GOTY

The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association, organizer of the Tokyo Game Show, has announced a number of winners in the Japan Game Awards 2011, including the Game of the Year award winner. Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 3rd for PSP took home the grand prize, while the likes of Nintendo's Wii Party and Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Atlus' Catherine took home runner-up awards for excellence. The judges of the competition noted that Monster Hunter Portable 3rd has accumulated over 4.6 million sales in Japan, while also introducing a "wide array of hunting actions" compared to previous releases in the series. 5th Cell's Scribblenauts, released earlier this year in Japan as Hirameki Pazuru Makkusueru no Fushigina Nohto, received the Game Designers Award 2011, with a panel of judges that included Jiro Ishii from Level-5 and Nintendo's Ryutaro Takahashi noting the "unique flexibility of the game." Tsunekazu Ishihara of the Pokemon Company received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, for his "significant contribution to the development of the game industry." The second leg of the Japan Game Awards, which will celebrate the development of amateur games, is set to be held tomorrow morning.
