MORTAL KOMBAT 2 Behind-The-Scenes Photo Reveals Karl Urban's Startling New Look As Johnny Cage

Mortal Kombat 2 recently started production in Australia, and producer Todd Garner recently took to Twitter to share a photo of the sequel's impressive cast.

The actors obviously aren't on set, meaning we don't get a first look at their respective appearances in the movie itself. However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to zero in on the fact The Boys and Thor: Ragnarok star Karl Urban is rocking a startling new look.

As well as shaving off his trademark beard, the actor has frosted tips in his hair, a style which definitely makes sense for a character like Johnny Cage. Many were surprised when Urban was cast in the role, though we have a good feeling the actor will have fun with the role in the sure-to-be action-packed follow-up.

The first movie debuted during the height of the pandemic but still managed to find a modicum of success at the box office. Crucially, it rapidly became one of HBO Max's biggest streaming hits, proving there's a lot of interest among moviegoers to see these iconic video game characters battle it out in live-action.

In Mortal Kombat 2, Martyn Ford will play Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam has been tapped to bring Edenian King Jerrod to life, Ana Thu Nguyen is set to star as Queen Sindel, and Damon Herriman is Netherrealm demon Quan Chi.

Moon Knight Head Writer Jeremy Slater has penned the screenplay, while Simon McQuoid is back in the director's chair.

According to a recent logline, "The sequel continues the story of a group of ragtag  fighters, versed in the ways of martial arts, who  defend our reality which is known in Earthrealm against the Outworld."
