MORTAL KOMBAT 2 Logo Revealed As Production Continues On Johnny Cage-Led Sequel

With production well underway on Mortal Kombat 2 in Australia, a first look at the movie's logo has been revealed by Liu Kang actor Ludi Lin. The actor took to Instagram (via SFFGazette.com) to share his excitement for the sequel, captioning the photo by saying, "And so it begins again..."

What's interesting about the logo is that the green colour scheme appears to be a nod to Johnny Cage's unique energies, a power source passed down through his family which materializes when he uses his powers in combat.

That character is expected to be this follow-up's lead, with the expectation being that he'll serve as a mentor to Cole Young as they fight side-by-side to protect Earthrealm. The first instalment ended with Shang Tsung being banished by Raiden after he swore to train new fighters for the upcoming Mortal Kombat tournament, and we're sure Johnny will be among his new recruits.

The first movie received a tepid critical response but was a huge hit on HBO Max when it was released at the height of the pandemic. The franchise's producers have acknowledged the opening chapter's shortcomings, promising to make things right with the sequel.

The movie stars Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Noob Saibot, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.

New cast additions include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.

Moon Knight Head Writer Jeremy Slater has penned the screenplay, while Simon McQuoid is back in the director's chair. According to a brief logline, "The sequel continues the story of a group of ragtag  fighters, versed in the ways of martial arts, who  defend our reality which is known in Earthrealm against the Outworld."

Mortal Kombat 2 doesn't currently have a confirmed release date.
