Namco Planning Tilt-Controlled Pac-Man, Galaga Combo Title For 3DS

Venerable Namco franchises Pac-Man and Galaga are being given tilt-controlled, stereoscopic updates for Nintendo's upcoming 3DS portable, according to a report from the latest issue of Famitsu (translated by Andriasang). Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions will contain two games on a single release, and both games will make extensive use of the 3DS hardware's built-in gyroscope. Galaga 3D Impact, for instance, in described as an first-person, on-rails shooter where movement is controlled automatically and players aim their shots by physically moving the 3DS in space. Pac-Man Tilt on the other hand, is a side-scrolling adventure featuring the limbed version of Pac-Man featured in the Pac-Man World and Pac-Land series. Tilting the system while playing will tilt the entire environment, causing platforms to swing or reorient, for instance. The Famitsu unveiling did not include details about the game's release date or international availability, Andriasang said. It's also unknown whether standard button controls will be available in addition to the tilt-based controls, as has been shown in some other 3DS demos. The original arcade versions of Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man were re-released in 2000 as part of a two-game "Class of '81" cabinet. Titles from the series have also been included together in numerous Namco Arcade Classics releases.
