The run 'n gun genre has been part of the video game industry pretty much since its early beginnings, and it is sadly a genre that Triple-A studios don't really cover any more. Fortunately, the genre is very much alive and kicking thanks to independent developers.
Just last month, Team17 and independent developer DeeVeewo Games announced a brand-new run 'n gun title in the form of the colourful Neon Abyss; a game that ticks all the boxes that fans of the genre expect to see in these games.
Neon Abyss was revealed to release for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC(Steam, GOG) on Friday the 17th of July — so players will only have to wait for a few more weeks until they can get their hands on this promising new title.
Luckily for some players, Team17 has just announced that Neon Abyss will be getting a playable demo ahead of its official release. What's more, this demo has been made available today, although it is only available for Nintendo Switch owners.
During an AMA session on Reddit — that took place earlier today, in fact — the developers revealed that this demo will feature 4 levels to play through, although the bad news is that it won't let players transfer their progress to the full game due to levels being procedurally generated every time.
