New U.S. Sales Milestones For Donkey Kong, Mario, Pokemon Titles

Accompanying today's NPD industry sales report, Nintendo announced new lifetime sales milestones for four Wii and DS titles in the U.S. Donkey Kong Country Returns has crossed the 2 million sales mark less than four months after its U.S. release. The game premiered at 6th place in NPD's November 2010 report, and rose to to fifth place in December before dropping off the NPD top ten entirely so far in 2011. Late 2009 release New Super Mario Bros. Wii continues to attract new sales in the U.S., passing 8 million sales in the country in February, according to Nintendo. Those sales come on top of more than 4 million sales in Japan, and are part of over 16 million sales for the game worldwide, as of last October. The original New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, meanwhile, has now sold over 9 million copies in the U.S. since its May 2006 release. That title had become the DS' first six-million-seller in Japan last December, and was last tracked at 24 million in worldwide sales last September. Finally, last March's release of Pokemon SoulSilver has now attracted 2 million sales in the U.S., though no similar figures were available for its sibling HeartGold version.
