Nintendo 3DS Leads Japanese Hardware Charts Despite Sales Decline

The Nintendo 3DS maintained its lead on the Japanese hardware sales charts despite a notable decline in sales during the week that earthquake and tsunami disasters devastated the region. For the week ended March 13, the 3DS sold 96,463 units, down more than 50 percent from last week, while the platform's total sales now surpass 680,000 units, according to tracking firm Media Create. After a recent bump in sales, Sony's PSP hardware saw a noticeable drop this week, selling 44,646 units compared to 76,246 units the week prior. The PlayStation 3 experienced a 7,000 unit sales boost this week, correlating with the release of Dynasty Warriors 7, which debuted on top of the Japanese software sales charts. Sales for other platforms remained largely consistent week-over-week, leaving the overall hardware rankings unchanged. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended March 13, 2011. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
