Nintendo, the Singaporean government's Media Development Authority, and DigiPen Institute of Technology have teamed up to turn the ideas of local developers into games on the Nintendo eShop for its 3DS handheld.
DigiPen and Nintendo are set to accept proposals from Singaporean devs beginning this fall; according to Singapore's The Straits Times, 10 projects will be selected in the first batch. The games will come to market -- with mentorship from DigiPen faculty and development teams -- in late 2016.
As the program expands, games won't be limited to the 3DS or even Nintendo's own platforms.
The initiative is christened DigiPen Game Studios, and will see the for-profit university acting as both developer and publisher.
"Now, through DGS, we will also have a way to help our Singapore-based graduates, as well as other game developers, to produce high-quality products of their own making and have them be published and distributed on a major gaming platform," says DigiPen exec Jason Chu.
The Washington-based school established its first international campus in Singapore in 2008.
